Brazil and Argentina have met five times at the men's tournament — 1974, 1978, 1982, 1990 and 2018 — never in the final. Their finals appearances have always been against European opposition (Brazil v Italy '94, '70, '38; Brazil v Germany '02, '14 SF, '74; Argentina v Germany '14, '90, '86; Argentina v France '22). The South American superclassico has never had its trophy moment.
